Sidmouth Beaches

If you are after coast and rural retreat, the beaches are a must during your retreat to Sidmouth. There are stretches of pebbles, sand and cliffs with views galore.

Jacob’s Ladder Beach

Jacob’s Ladder is one of Sidmouth’s two large beaches. An expanse of sand and shingle, the beach gets its name from the series of wooden steps that lead to Connaught Gardens. Consequently, Connaught Gardens are a perfect stop to relax, enjoy a bite to eat and take advantage of the panoramic views of the Jurassic Coast.

Sidmouth Beach is a beautiful expanse of sand and shingle beach, accessible, and surrounded by awe-inspiring cliffs that make the beach feel very secluded. Additionally, The Town Beach has lots of access points to the beach and a number of Devon Clotted Cream Ice Cream stops nearby. Equally, if you’re after an active day out, Jurassic Paddle Sports is a SUP, Kayak and Surfboard hire company on Sidmouth Beach.

Salcombe Hill Walk

“This spectacular circular walk showcases the regency town of Sidmouth. Starting with the stunning views across the Sid Valley, part of the Jurassic Coast UNESCO World Heritage Site. The walk takes you down into Sidmouth town through the woods and fields of Salcombe Hill and then upriver through the Byes, Sidmouth’s lovely, tranquil riverside park.” National Trust.org.uk.

Norman Lockyer Observatory

Norman Lockyer Observatory is well worth visitting. The Norman Lockyer Observatory, the Lockyer Technology Centre and the Planetarium is a public access optical observatory, just 1 mile east of Sidmouth.
